La Salle remains unsatisfied despite latest championship victory

During the Shakey’s Super League National Invitational Finals, the La Salle Lady Spikers showcased their dominance. However, they understand that there is still room for improvement as they prepare for the upcoming UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament.

Despite missing key players like rookie MVP Angel Canino, the Lady Spikers secured their second championship of the year by defeating the Adamson Lady Falcons in a thrilling do-or-die Finals Game 3. Led by MVP Shevana Laput, La Salle bounced back from a Game 1 collapse to sweep Adamson and claim the National Invitationals crown.

Assistant coach Noel Orcullo acknowledged that there are areas the team needs to focus on. The new starting setter Julia Coronel and her fellow playmakers Julyan Tolentino and Ela Raagas need to improve their connection with their attackers. Additionally, La Salle is in search of a consistent libero after the absence of Justine Jazareno, possibly due to recruitment rumors by Premier Volleyball League teams. This has led the team to explore options like defensive specialist Matet Espina.

Orcullo emphasized the importance of building strong connections within the team. The setters must establish a better understanding with their teammates, while the liberos must double their effort to connect with the setters and spikers.

While the Lady Spikers celebrated their first Shakey’s Super League crown, they recognize the need to step up their game. Their rivals from National University, who represented the Philippines in international competitions, have set a high bar. La Salle has lost key players and needs to triple their effort to match NU’s level.

Looking ahead, La Salle will assess their participation in the SSL 2nd Preseason Collegiate Championship. The team is adjusting to the absence of graduates like Jolina Dela Cruz and Mars Alba, as well as Fifi Sharma, who turned professional.

In conclusion, the La Salle Lady Spikers have achieved success but understand the importance of continuous improvement. They are focused on strengthening connections within the team and raising their level of play to compete with their rivals.
