Liverpool’s Mo Salah appears displeased following being substituted in Premier League opener

Liverpool superstar Mo Salah had a disappointing start to the 2023-24 Premier League season. His Sunday clash against Chelsea ended early, leaving Salah visibly frustrated.

In the 77th minute, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp made the decision to sub Salah off the pitch. As he walked off, Salah expressed his discontent by removing the tape from his hands and throwing it onto the field, passing by Klopp.

At that point, Liverpool and Chelsea were tied at 1-1. The Reds took the lead in the 18th minute with a goal from Luis Diaz, assisted by Salah. However, Salah’s potential goal in the 29th minute was overturned by VAR. Chelsea’s Axel Disasi equalized in the 37th minute.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw, earning both teams their first points of the season. This marked the first time Salah failed to score in the opening match of a Premier League season since joining Liverpool.

Salah had a comparatively low goal tally of 19 last season, his lowest since the 2019-20 season. These two seasons were the only instances where he scored fewer than 20 goals since his transfer from Roma in 2017. This highlights a somewhat underwhelming year for Liverpool, who finished fifth in the Premier League table after being runners-up in the previous season. Despite winning the league title in 2019-20, Liverpool has only secured one championship since 1990.

In terms of European competitions, Liverpool suffered a loss in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 to Real Madrid. They will now compete in the Europa League this season.

It will be intriguing to see how Salah bounces back from this early setback and how Liverpool fare in their upcoming matches.
