Canoga Park Nordstrom Store Ravaged by Multiple Robbers

Authorities are currently investigating a shocking incident of mass shoplifting that took place at Nordstrom in the Westfield Topanga Mall. A group of up to 50 individuals, wearing masks and hoodies to conceal their identities, raided the store on Saturday afternoon. Cell phone footage shared on Twitter captured the chaos as the suspects smashed displays, snatched clothing and bags, and quickly fled the scene.

According to Pedro Muniz, spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department, around 30 to 50 people were involved in the heist. Despite the criminal activity, the mall was not evacuated, and only one individual required medical attention after being sprayed with bear spray.

Police estimate the value of the stolen items to be between $60,000 and $100,000. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass strongly condemned the incident, emphasizing the need for accountability and prevention of such attacks on retailers in the future. She expressed her confidence in the diligent efforts of the Los Angeles Police Department to identify the culprits and bring them to justice.

This incident bears similarities to a recent “flash mob” burglary that occurred at the Yves Saint Laurent store in the Americana at Brand mall in Glendale. Sergeant Victor Jackson of the Glendale Police Department described how a coordinated group simultaneously overwhelmed the store staff, looted the merchandise, and fled in multiple vehicles, resulting in an estimated loss of approximately $300,000.

The trend of these “flash mob” burglaries has raised concerns about the overall rise in shoplifting and the increasing audacity of criminals. Chief Michel Moore of the Los Angeles Police Department pointed out that lenient laws and weakened consequences for shoplifters have contributed to this problem. He highlighted the impact of legislation that eliminated cash bail for certain offenses, creating an unequal playing field between different cities in terms of deterring criminal activity.
