Packers TE Tyler Davis suffers ACL tear in preseason opener

Green Bay Packers’ Tyler Davis, the talented tight end, suffered a devastating blow during the preseason opener on Friday night. Sources have confirmed to ESPN that Davis tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the game.

Despite the unfortunate injury, Davis managed to make his mark on the field, with two receptions for a total of 9 yards against the Cincinnati Bengals. One of these receptions even resulted in a 5-yard score during the second quarter. However, it was on his second reception that the injury occurred, causing Davis to limp off the field.

After trainers assessed the situation, Davis was transported off the field and to the locker room for further evaluation.

The initial report on Davis’ injury was first shared by NFL Network.

Although an official diagnosis is yet to be released, Green Bay Packers’ coach Matt LaFleur expressed his concern over the severity of Davis’ injury and hinted that it would keep him out of action for an extended period.

“It’s heartbreaking,” said LaFleur. “We will definitely miss his presence on the field.”

Davis, a sixth-round pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2020 NFL draft, joined the Packers in 2021 after playing eight games for the Jaguars. During his time with the Packers, Davis has showcased his abilities in 31 games, starting in one of them. Although he has only caught eight passes for a total of 61 yards on offense, he has played an instrumental role on special teams, participating in 81% of snaps.

Rookie Luke Musgrave is currently listed as the starting tight end on the team’s depth chart. However, with Davis sidelined, Tucker Kraft and Austin Allen are poised to compete for the vacant No. 2 tight end position.
