Even without starters, Jets’ defensive line dominates Panthers

In Saturday’s game against the Panthers, the Jets showcased the depth of their defensive line, even without some key players. Their relentless pressure on the opposing offense was impressive, with player after player making plays throughout the game. Head coach Robert Saleh praised their passion for the game and their ability to inspire and support each other. Despite missing Quinnen Williams, Carl Lawson, John Franklin-Myers, and Al Woods, the Jets still managed to record eight quarterback hits and five sacks. Players like Quinton Jefferson, Will McDonald, Bruce Hector, and Deslin Alexandre stepped up with impactful performances. Johnson and Huff even split a sack. The Jets’ defensive line has embraced their role as the driving force behind the team’s defense.

In an interview, Johnson expressed their pride in being the unit that sets the tone for the team and their motivation to do so in every game. Their intensity and training have impressed Jets backup quarterback Zach Wilson, who practices against them daily. Wilson acknowledged the difficulty of playing efficiently under pressure from a strong defensive line. He praised the Jets’ defensive line for their performance and recognized its importance for the team’s success.

There was a significant increase in playing time for OT Mekhi Becton this week. After only playing seven snaps in the Hall of Fame Game, Becton played 27 snaps in the recent game against the Panthers. Although he did not start the game, Becton entered in the second quarter and continued playing into the third. Coach Saleh commended Becton for his perseverance and dedication, noting that he exceeded their planned playing time. Becton’s confidence and progress in his recovery from a knee injury is a positive development for the team.

TE Jeremy Ruckert sustained a left shoulder AC joint injury. Despite the injury, Saleh expressed optimism about Ruckert’s recovery.
