Aditya Pai Makes Significant Staff Changes in Congressional Campaign – Orange County Register

Aditya Pai, a congressional candidate, is undergoing a complete overhaul of his campaign team. In his search for new team members, Pai emphasizes finding individuals who are not fond of politics but are passionate about public service.

Recently, Pai made headlines when a former aide mistakenly sent an email proclaiming the suspension of his campaign. It took eight hours before a corrective email was sent out by his campaign team.

Since then, Pai has made the decision to part ways with everyone on his campaign team, except for a website manager and an FEC compliance officer, due to a mismatch of values.

Pai reflects on the current state of his campaign, stating, “Everything else is just a blank canvas at this point.” He has received numerous offers and proposals from both general consultants and political experts.

However, finding individuals who are passionate about service rather than politics has proven to be a challenge, according to Pai. He explains, “Political professionals tend to enjoy the game of politics, while those who truly enjoy serving and helping others are generally hesitant to enter such a brutal and emotionally intense environment. I personally faced this dilemma as well. I consider myself a public servant, not a politician.”

At 31 years old, Pai, a resident of Brea, announced his campaign in early April as one of several Democratic candidates hoping to win Rep. Michelle Steel’s congressional seat in the 2024 election. Steel, a Republican representing the 45th congressional district encompassing north Orange County communities and parts of Los Angeles County, has already raised over $2 million for her campaign. In comparison, Pai has raised $139,061, with a personal loan of $16,917, while Cheyenne Hunt, a UC Irvine Law graduate, has raised $170,557.

Kim Bernice Nguyen, a Garden Grove Councilmember, has raised $151,239, and Jimmy Pham, a Little Saigon attorney who joined the race in mid-June, has raised $13,485, with a personal loan of $8,500.

The district that Pai is vying for is on the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s target list of competitive Republican-held or open districts. Democrats hold a voter registration advantage of nearly 6% over Republicans in the district, according to the latest official state registration reports.

In the previous election, Steel secured reelection, defeating her Democratic opponent by a margin of almost 5%.

Pai intends to hire a director of service for his campaign, responsible for organizing various community service events. He compares this role to that of a district director for a member of Congress, but in the context of a candidate’s campaign. Pai believes that providing constituent services in the district is just as crucial as legislation and oversight in Washington, D.C.

Pai aims to demonstrate that as a candidate, he can make a greater impact on the district than someone who already holds the full power of a congressional office. In addition to his campaign efforts, Pai will continue offering free legal aid, particularly in areas such as tenants’ and homeowners’ rights. He and his friends are also developing college admission workshops to provide families without the means for expensive consultations with resources and insights from individuals who have attended prestigious schools.

Mental health clinics are another important consideration for Pai. He has garnered support from mental health professionals who have volunteered their services to those who cannot afford therapy.
