Review of “Red, White, & Royal Blue”: Unraveling its Essence

Uma Thurman’s accent and Truvada product placement add an interesting touch to the long-awaited Prime Video movie adaptation of Red, White, & Royal Blue. However, the overall viewing experience was disappointing. The romance between the two main characters, Alex and Henry, felt contrived and lacked depth. The performances, especially that of Taylor Zakhar Perez, seemed more like a Disney Channel Original Gay Porn than a compelling portrayal. The film struggled to find a consistent tone, oscillating between a bland network sitcom and explicit sex scenes. While it was refreshing to see some onscreen thrusts, the visuals and overemphasis on physical perfection detracted from the overall appeal. The movie attempted to tackle important issues such as being royal and gay, but these plotlines felt forced and less believable than Uma Thurman’s Southern accent. The questionable choices in set design, costuming, and visuals further added to the disjointed nature of the film. Despite these flaws, Red, White, & Royal Blue is still an entertaining, if forgettable, experience.
