Andy Taylor of Duran Duran reveals that a groundbreaking cancer treatment has prolonged his life.

Taylor, the 62-year-old guitarist of Duran Duran, recently opened up about missing the pivotal moment of his life due to his battle with stage four prostate cancer. Last year, when the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Taylor was unable to join them due to his illness. However, he found hope when a doctor informed him about a treatment specifically targeting cancer cells.

During an interview on BBC Breakfast, Taylor shared his experience, stating, “I’ve been fighting stage four prostate cancer for approximately eight years, and it really started to take a toll on me last September. As much as I tried to prepare and be ready for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, which is like being knighted for a guitarist, I just couldn’t give it my all.”

Taylor further explained the difficulty he faced leading up to the ceremony, saying, “A few days before, I couldn’t even stand up and play. I had to come to terms with the reality of my condition, but it was heartbreaking, and I hadn’t shared the news with the band or anyone.”

In a heartfelt letter read out to the audience at the induction ceremony, Taylor finally revealed his diagnosis to his fellow band members – singer Simon Le Bon, keyboardist Nick Rhodes, bassist John Taylor, and drummer Roger Taylor.

Reflecting on his decision to keep his diagnosis private, Taylor said, “I kept it quiet because I knew it would become a big deal once it went public. I could have chosen a more subdued moment to announce it, but I didn’t want to overshadow the band.”

Despite the challenges, Taylor expressed his relief at going public with his diagnosis, saying, “Sharing it with others has lifted a huge weight off my shoulders. Once I had the support and a team to help me navigate through the public response, I felt empowered to face it head-on.”

However, Taylor couldn’t help but express his disappointment at missing the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, calling it the biggest night of his life.

On a more positive note, Taylor spoke about the new targeted cancer treatment he has been receiving. He explained, “It specifically attacks cancer cells and leaves healthy cells unaffected. I had my first round of treatment six weeks ago, and I’m scheduled for another round next week. It’s been proven to eliminate stage four cancer in the bones.”

Duran Duran, formed in Birmingham in 1978, became one of the most prominent bands of the 1980s with hits like “Rio,” “The Wild Boys,” and the James Bond theme “A View To A Kill.” The band recently released their 15th studio album, “Future Past,” in 2021. In addition, Andy Taylor is set to release his solo album, “Man’s A Wolf,” in September.

Currently, Duran Duran is on a North American tour with special guests Nile Rodgers and Chic, as well as Bastille.
