Henry Ruggs III, Former Raiders WR, Receives 3-10 Year Prison Sentence for Deadly DUI Accident

In May, former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III pleaded guilty to a felony charge of DUI resulting in death and a misdemeanor count of vehicular manslaughter in a Clark County District Court. He was sentenced on Wednesday to 3 to 10 years in prison.

The incident occurred in November 2021 when Ruggs was accused of driving at speeds of up to 156 miles per hour on residential streets, while intoxicated with a blood-alcohol content of 0.16 percent, which is twice the legal limit. The crash tragically resulted in the deaths of a 23-year-old woman, Tina Tintor, and her dog. Initially, Ruggs was charged with DUI, reckless driving, and possession of a firearm while under the influence. He was subsequently released by the Raiders.

During his sentencing, Ruggs read a statement expressing his apology to the family and parents of Tina Tintor. According to a local CBS News station, he stated, “I sincerely apologize for my actions the morning of Nov. 2, 2021. My actions do not accurately reflect who I am.”

Ruggs’ attorney described his client as a “kind, shy, extremely bright, and thoughtful young man” who takes full responsibility for his actions.

District Attorney Steven B. Wolfson acknowledged that the outcome of the case may not fully satisfy the Tintor family’s loss but explained that there was a concern that the blood draw results might have been suppressed in court, resulting in a loss of the felony DUI charge. The district attorney’s statement acknowledged that Ruggs’ sentencing to up to 10 years in prison on a felony DUI conviction brings closure to the Tintor family.

The Tintor family, through their attorneys, released a statement expressing their grief and the hope that others can learn from this tragedy to prevent similar incidents. They also appreciated the efforts of the district attorney’s office in overcoming the challenges posed by the initial investigation and expressed their desire to focus on honoring the memories of Tina and her dog.
