Lawsuit Filed Against OB-GYN for Alleged Baby Decapitation During Delivery

A devastating incident occurred during the delivery of a Georgia couple’s baby, resulting in the decapitation of the child. The couple, Jessica Ross and Treveon Isaiah Taylor, had eagerly anticipated the arrival of their son, Treveon Isaiah Taylor Jr. However, their excitement turned into a nightmare when the delivery went terribly wrong.

According to their attorney, Cory Lynch, Jessica and Treveon were under the care of Dr. Tracey L. St. Julian at Premier Woman OB-GYN. The delivery took place at Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale, Georgia. The lawsuit filed by the couple accuses Dr. St. Julian of neglecting to follow emergency obstetrical protocols when the baby’s shoulder became stuck during a vaginal delivery attempt. Instead of providing appropriate care, she allegedly exerted excessive force, resulting in the decapitation of the baby.

To compound the tragedy, the hospital and its staff were accused of attempting to cover up the incident by denying the couple immediate access to their child’s body. This led the couple’s attorney to state that “Southern Regional Medical Center covered up the nightmare that unfolded.”

The lawsuit outlines the events leading up to the horrific outcome. Ross was admitted to the emergency room on July 9 after her water broke, and by 8:40 p.m., she was fully dilated. During labor, the baby became stuck, and despite Ross pushing for three hours, the delivery did not occur. The lawsuit claims that Dr. St. Julian failed to take necessary actions to reposition the baby and neglected to address the declining oxygen levels and heart rate. Only when the baby’s head was decapitated did Dr. St. Julian finally decide to perform a C-section. The baby’s legs and torso were delivered through the C-section, while his head was delivered vaginally.

During the following days, hospital staff tightly wrapped the baby’s body in a blanket and allowed the parents to see their child only through glass. Dr. Roderick Edmond, another representative for the family, revealed that the hospital propped up the decapitated head on top of the blanket to deceive the parents. The family’s attorneys also claimed that the hospital discouraged them from getting an autopsy and instead pushed for cremation of their son’s remains.

Shockingly, the hospital and staff failed to report the infant’s death to the police, though it was the funeral home that eventually informed the authorities. The couple learned the devastating truth about their son’s decapitation from Dr. St. Julian on July 13, after Ross was discharged from the hospital.

The Clayton County Police Department has initiated an investigation into the hospital’s failure to report the infant’s death. The lawsuit seeks damages for negligence, fraud, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

The incident underscores a larger issue affecting Black mothers in the United States, as highlighted by Blue Cross Blue Shield’s study on racial disparities in maternal health. Black women younger than 24 are more likely to experience severe childbirth complications than white women older than 35. It is essential to recognize that Ross’s doctor, Dr. St. Julian, is also a Black woman.

HuffPost reached out to Dr. St. Julian for comment but did not receive a response. Southern Regional Medical Center clarified that Dr. St. Julian is not an employee of the hospital but has privileges to provide services there. The hospital expressed its condolences to the family and emphasized its cooperation with all investigations.
