The second season finale of Only Murders in the Building made it clear that Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez would be solving another murder mystery in season three, with Paul Rudd playing the victim. The new case takes place a year after the events of the previous seasons and outside of the main building. In the season three premiere, titled “The Show Must,” the death of Ben Glenroy (played by Rudd) is briefly undone. However, his resurrection is short-lived as his body is discovered on top of an elevator at the end of the episode, reigniting the podcasters’ investigation.
The first two episodes of Only Murders in the Building season three introduce the audience to various suspects who had motive and opportunity to kill Ben Glenroy. One of the notable additions to the cast is Meryl Streep, who plays Loretta Durkin, a struggling actress and one of the stars of Oliver’s new Broadway show. Loretta’s potential romance with Oliver and her strained relationship with Ben make her a top suspect.
Dickie Glenroy, Ben’s brother and manager, portrayed by Jeremy Shamos, also becomes a suspect. As the person responsible for Ben’s strict diet, Dickie could have easily poisoned him, leading to an unsuccessful murder attempt. Tobert, Ben’s documentarian played by Jesse Williams, also raises suspicions with his significant dialogue hinting at his involvement in the murder.
Donna and Clifford DiMeo, the producers of “Death Rattle” portrayed by Linda Emond and Wesley Taylor, exhibit suspicious behavior and may have a motive for killing Ben due to his diva-like attitude. Additionally, Howard, a resident of the building played by Michael Cyril Creighton, becomes a prime suspect, especially after being cast as Oliver’s assistant instead of a role in the play.
As the season unfolds, more suspects will emerge, and the true killer of Ben Glenroy will be revealed in due time. Only Murders in the Building season three releases new episodes on Tuesdays on Hulu.
