MANILA, Philippines—As an ambitious Filipino boxing prospect, Carl Jammes Martin is determined to reach the pinnacle of his sport.
His upcoming fight on August 19 against Tanzania’s Oscar Duge, following a rib injury, presents an opportunity for Martin to move closer to his goal of becoming a world champion.
Martin currently holds an impressive 21-0 record with 17 knockouts. However, he acknowledges the need to prove himself against tougher opponents.
Hailing from Lagawe, Ifugao, the 24-year-old Martin is eager to showcase his skills against high-caliber competition in front of a larger audience.
While he has yet to compete outside the country, Martin believes it won’t be long before he gains the necessary exposure, with the support of former world champion Gerry Peñalosa and MP Promotions’ Sean Gibbons. This could potentially lead to training opportunities in the United States.
If everything goes according to plan, Martin’s US debut will follow, and as his victories accumulate, his much-anticipated shot at a championship title will come.
However, Martin remains focused on his upcoming fight and understands the importance of not looking too far ahead.
“This fight is crucial to me. We have put in a lot of hard work during training,” he said.
