To create the watch choker, Jacob & Co. sent several watches of various prices to Rihanna’s stylists. In typical Rihanna fashion, she chose the most expensive option, the 47-millimeter Brilliant Flying Tourbillon, priced at $670,000. This exquisite watch is adorned with 338 baguette-cut white diamonds, totaling 30 carats, positioned on the dial, crown, and 18-karat white-gold case. Additionally, the watch features another 338 diamonds set on its flying tourbillon movement.
During the design process, there were concerns about the weight of the watch due to its white gold and tourbillon components. However, the biggest challenge was determining how to secure the strap. Ultimately, a Velcro system was chosen for its adjustability, allowing the pregnant singer to alter the fit easily. The strap itself is made of black leather embossed to mimic the appearance of alligator skin.
Rihanna proudly debuted the watch choker during Pharrell Williams’s first runway show as men’s creative director at Louis Vuitton during Paris Fashion Week. This high-profile event garnered significant attention, with an estimated 150 million people witnessing the news and social media coverage.
