Garden Grove Police Officer Tragically Dies in Off-Duty Car Accident

Investigation is underway by Anaheim police regarding a motorcycle accident that resulted in the death of an off-duty Garden Grove police officer.

Cpl. Han Cho, who had 28 years of experience with the Garden Grove Police Department’s Neighborhood Traffic Unit, suffered fatal injuries on Monday at the intersection of Glenoaks Avenue and Euclid Street, according to police reports.

Sgt. Jon McClintock from the Anaheim Police Department stated that the off-duty officer, who was riding a motorcycle, was immediately taken to the hospital in critical condition and sadly succumbed to his injuries. The other driver involved in the accident was also transported to the hospital for minor injuries, added McClintock.

The age of Cho has not been provided at this time.

Alcohol is not believed to have contributed to the cause of the accident, as confirmed by the Garden Grove police. The collision occurred while Cho was on his way home from work, according to their statement.

“The Garden Grove Police Association will collaborate with the Cho family regarding commemoration and donations,” stated the department. “More details will be disclosed later. We truly appreciate the overwhelming support we have received from our local law enforcement partners and the community as we navigate through these difficult times.”

According to a GoFundMe page, Cho leaves behind a teenage son, a daughter, parents, two sisters, a brother, and a niece.

“Han was cherished by many, and his tragic demise has left us all in shock and disbelief,” expressed Cho’s sister, Sonya Chung, on the fundraising page, which had already gathered over $3,900 towards its $40,000 objective as of Tuesday afternoon.

Chung mentioned that the funds raised will aid in covering funeral expenses and “ensuring that his two young children receive the care they need as they navigate their lives without their father.”
