Jon Batiste’s latest album aims to forge a deep connection between listeners and their own humanity as well as others

Jon Batiste had a successful year, securing five Grammy Awards out of eleven nominations, including a grand win for his album “We Are” in the Album of the Year category.

In an interview with “CBS Mornings,” Batiste shared details about his upcoming album, “World Music Radio,” emphasizing its uniqueness compared to his previous works. He described it as a “concept album” that takes listeners on a creative exploration, blending various genres and cultures in an innovative manner.

“This album covers a wide spectrum of music and culture, making connections to joy, heritage, and ultimately, humanity and unity,” Batiste explained. The album is set to be released on August 18.

Batiste pleasantly surprised students from the Brooklyn Music School and Jazz Standard Youth Orchestra, both organizations dedicated to teaching underserved children. During his visit, Batiste invited 17-year-old Chris Lee, one of the students, to collaborate with him and play the piano alongside him.

Reflecting on the experience, Batiste expressed the transformative power of mentorship. He shared, “I looked around and saw you and your bandmates, and it reminded me of when I was starting out. I enjoyed it so much,” speaking to Lee during their appearance on “CBS Mornings.”

During his time with the students, Batiste emphasized the importance of the creative process in music. He encouraged them to infuse their genuine emotions and perspectives into their work, reminding them that the journey of crafting music holds more significance than the final outcome.

Batiste’s deep commitment to music education stems from his own background and the influence of important figures in his life, including his father and older mentors who shared their musical wisdom.

For Batiste, music education is not merely a passion but a way of life. “It’s just a way of being for me,” he expressed.
