Bernie Kerik, the disgraced former police commissioner of New York City, had a meeting on Monday with investigators at the office of special counsel Jack Smith. The meeting lasted approximately five hours and centered around the efforts made by Rudy Giuliani, lawyer for Donald Trump’s campaign, to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. This information was confirmed by Kerik’s lawyer to NBC News.

This meeting took place nearly a week after the special counsel filed a criminal indictment against former President Trump concerning his involvement in the election reversal effort. The indictment specifically mentions one alleged co-conspirator, who is believed to be Giuliani.

During Giuliani’s tenure as mayor of New York, Kerik served as the NYPD commissioner. Together, they worked towards reversing Trump’s electoral loss to President Joe Biden.

The meeting was first reported by CNN. Kerik’s lawyer, Tim Parlatore, confirmed the session to NBC News. Special counsel Jack Smith was not present during the meeting.

In 2009, Kerik pleaded guilty to federal charges of felony tax fraud and lying to the government. He was released from federal prison in 2013 after serving a three-year sentence. In 2020, while he was still president, Trump pardoned Kerik.

Last week, Trump pleaded not guilty to the new indictment during his arraignment in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C.
