‘Gen Z Panics as They Realize Their Children Will Belong to ‘Gen Beta”

  • The year 2024 marks the end of “Gen Alpha,” with children born from 2025 being part of “Gen Beta.”
  • Gen Zers are expressing shock upon realizing that their future children will fall into the “Gen Beta” category.
  • Many people have commented on the perceived lack of coolness in the name “Gen Beta” compared to “Gen Alpha.”
  • Gen Zers are experiencing a sense of shock upon realizing that the year 2024 will mark the end of “Gen Alpha” and that children born from 2025 onwards will be categorized as “Gen Beta.”

“Gen Alpha” refers to the current youngest generation, encompassing those born between the early 2010s and mid-2020s. Most Gen Alpha members are children of millennials and older Gen Zers.

As more members of Gen Z, the oldest of whom will turn 27 this year, approach parenthood, some are taking to social media platforms like TikTok to express their existential distress about the passage of time.

In a viral video posted on June 28, TikToker @sar.poooooh shared her epiphany about needing to revise her life plans to ensure her children are included in Gen Alpha. The video has amassed over 3 million views to date.

The video sparked a consensus among viewers that “Gen Beta” lacks the same level of appeal as “Gen Alpha.” Many expressed a realization of the need to expedite their plans for having children.

Parents also joined the conversation, proudly declaring their Gen Alpha children. However, one viewer expressed a desire for “Gen Gamma” to have children akin to the fictional character Hulk, referencing the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Despite the absence of any Gen Beta children yet, people have been mocking the name for years. In a March 2021 video, TikToker @cathcorn sympathetically stated, “I feel sorry for them already, and they’re not even born.”

The topic of upcoming generations’ names ignited discussions among viewers, with some expressing a reluctance to have children due to environmental concerns or financial constraints.

Gen Alpha, named after the first letter of the Greek alphabet, represents the first generation born entirely in the 21st century. Social researcher Mark McCrindle is credited with coining the name.

As Gen Alpha’s online presence continues to grow, some Gen Zers find themselves facing similar issues that they once ridiculed millennials for, leading to a disconnection from the current cultural trends.
