In Florida, a senior citizen has been charged with the fatal beating of another senior citizen, and an unexpected photo of a hole-in-one played a role in solving the case. According to a report by Fox 35, the incident occurred on June 28 at the Glenview Country Club in The Villages. 87-year-old Dean Zook accidentally hit a car while trying to park, and 76-year-old Robert Moore Jr. mistakenly believed that Zook had hit his car. When Zook asked to exchange insurance information, Moore punched him in the jaw, and continued to punch him until realizing it was not his car that had been struck.
After the incident, Sumter County deputies arrived at the scene and noticed that Zook was slurring his words and having difficulty standing. He was later diagnosed with bleeding of the brain, and eventually succumbed to his injuries. Authorities were able to identify Moore as the suspect by finding a receipt for a to-go food order from the country club, and a detective searching his name online discovered a photo of Moore posing after hitting a hole-in-one at a local course, as reported by Villages-News. The surveillance video of the assault showed a person wearing similar clothing to what Moore was wearing in the hole-in-one photo.
Court documents reveal that Moore has confessed to punching Zook. He claimed that he did so only after Zook touched his shirt and arm. The initial confusion was likely due to Moore driving the same make and model car as the one struck by Zook. Moore is scheduled to be arraigned in September on charges of aggressive manslaughter.
