Mercury’s Shey Peddy Exits Court on Stretcher in Frightening Incident, Struck by Elbow

Phoenix Mercury guard Shey Peddy sustained a frightening injury in the second quarter of Saturday night’s game against the Seattle Storm. Peddy was struck in the head by an elbow with 1:34 remaining before halftime, causing her to collapse on the court. Medical staff rushed in with a stretcher to remove her from the game. The Mercury provided an update stating that Peddy had movement in her limbs and was taken to the hospital for further evaluation.

“Shey Peddy suffered a concussion in tonight’s game and was taken to the hospital,” the team later announced. “All tests came back negative, and she will be able to return home tonight. Shey is in good spirits and was following the end of the game.”

Peddy began her WNBA career in 2012 when she was drafted by the Chicago Sky in the second round as the 23rd overall pick. However, she did not immediately play in the league. After being waived, she played overseas before signing with the Washington Mystics in 2019. The Mystics traded her to the Mercury midway through the 2020 season, and she has been with the team ever since.

During this season, Peddy has appeared in 18 games, averaging 5.2 points and 1.8 assists per game.

In the game against the Storm, Seattle emerged victorious with a 97-91 win, thanks to Sami Whitcomb’s three-pointer in the final 30 seconds and Jewell Loyd’s impressive 32-point performance.
