Police Capture Two Suspected Car Thieves; Search Continues for Another Suspect

Following an early morning vehicle pursuit across Orange and Los Angeles counties, authorities apprehended two suspected car thieves, while a third suspect remains at large.

The Seal Beach Police Department reported that at around 3:45 a.m. on Friday, an automated license plate reader alerted officers to a potential stolen vehicle near Pacific Coast Highway and 13th Street.

Pursuing the lead, detectives located the reported stolen car being trailed by another vehicle. As officers followed both cars, the occupants in each turned off their headlights, started driving on the wrong side of the road, and almost collided with a southbound vehicle on northbound Seal Beach Boulevard.

Further details about the vehicles are currently unavailable.

The pursuit led officers onto the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway, with Jesse Amador, 18, and an unnamed 15-year-old boy from Norwalk, along with another suspect. In their attempt to apprehend all vehicles, a Seal Beach Police Department Canine officer could only follow one, which eventually exited the Cherry Street off-ramp in Long Beach and collided with a center median, rendering the car inoperable. The pursuing officers also crashed at the same location, disabling their vehicle.

Subsequently, a foot chase ensued.

An officer tried to apprehend Amador near Temple Avenue and East Spring Street, but he resisted arrest. As a result, a police service dog was deployed, causing Amador to sustain minor injuries that required hospital treatment.

Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the California Highway Patrol, Cypress Police Department, Los Alamitos Police Department, and Long Beach Police Department, collaborated with Seal Beach police to establish a perimeter. The authorities later located the 15-year-old suspect in the 2600 block of East Spring Street without any further trouble. However, the third suspect, described only as a man wearing dark-colored clothing, managed to evade capture.

Amador was arrested and subsequently booked at the Orange County Jail on charges of felony possession of a stolen vehicle, felony evading, and resisting arrest. The 15-year-old boy was released to his parents with charges pending, as confirmed by the police.

The investigation is still ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact Sgt. Gibson at 562-799-4100, ext. 1128 or via email at [email protected].
