Aug. 4 (UPI) — After over two decades of steadfastly choosing the same set of lottery numbers, Tamara Laughinghouse of Mooresville, North Carolina, has emerged victorious by winning a $200,000 Powerball prize.
Laughinghouse admitted to North Carolina Education Lottery officials that she had purchased the winning ticket for the July 17 drawing from the Mooresville Food Lion store, using the numbers she has faithfully played in numerous lottery drawings. These numbers represent the birthdays of various family members, adding an emotional value to her selections.
Even when she received the life-changing news, Laughinghouse was away on a family vacation in Wyoming. It was during a morning coffee session at her parents’ house when her father casually began reading out the winning numbers. Sensing the possibility, she requested her father to repeat the numbers, desperate for confirmation.
Ultimately, Laughinghouse discovered that she had matched four white balls and the Powerball, earning herself a magnificent $200,000 prize. To further amplify her triumph, the drawing also selected a 4X multiplier, which boosted her winnings to the aforementioned amount.
Overjoyed with the realization of her win, Laughinghouse’s husband swiftly went online to verify the prize amount. Their excitement intensified as he joyfully exclaimed, “I think you won $200,000.” The couple, along with their family, celebrated the joyful moment with heartfelt hugs.
