The incident took place on Wednesday morning at approximately 10:37 a.m., prompting the prompt response of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
A statement released by the LAFD described the event as follows: “A small single-engine aircraft crashed at Van Nuys Airport, engulfing in flames. The fire was promptly extinguished by our diligent fire crews, but tragically, both occupants on board were found deceased.”

During a news briefing held at the airport later that day, LAFD Captain Erik Scott revealed that the plane had tragically crashed into the ground, impacting nose-first with tremendous force.
Firefighters from a nearby fire station displayed remarkable speed and effectiveness in employing foam to extinguish the intense flames, fueled by aviation fuel, as shared by Captain Scott.
An airport police officer, who happened to be in the vicinity, witnessed the crash firsthand, according to Airport Police Captain Karla Rodriguez.
Although Runway 16-R was temporarily closed for approximately 30 minutes, Runway 16-L remained operational, causing minimal disruption to airport operations, as Rodriguez explained.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a statement clarifying that the specific aircraft involved in the incident was a single-engine CSA SportCruiser. The FAA also confirmed that two individuals were on board at the time of the crash. The official investigation will be conducted by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), who will provide updates on the case.
