Former Dancer of Lizzo, Arianna Davis, Makes Claims of a Toxic Workplace Environment

Three former dancers who had worked with Lizzo have come forward and filed a lawsuit against her, as they claim to have experienced a toxic workplace environment. These dancers had initially been ecstatic about the opportunity to work with the pop star, having admired her from afar. However, their experience turned out to be disappointing and far from what they had anticipated.

Arianna Davis and Crystal Williams were overjoyed to be selected as dancers for Lizzo after auditioning for her reality show, “Watch Out for the Big Grrrls.” Meanwhile, Noelle Rodriguez, who had previously danced for Beyonce and Megan Thee Stallion, was equally excited to be a part of Lizzo’s team due to her public support for body positivity. However, their perception of Lizzo quickly changed.

According to the lawsuit filed in California superior court, the dancers allege that they were subjected to various forms of workplace abuse, including harassment based on race and body size, as well as false imprisonment. They claim that Lizzo and her team treated Black dancers with less respect and forced them into uncomfortable situations, such as attending a strip club in Amsterdam against their will.

The dancers expressed their disappointment, emphasizing that they never expected their relationship with the artist to end this way. However, Lizzo’s representatives and legal team have yet to comment on the matter.

Davis and Williams first met Lizzo while auditioning for her reality show in the summer of 2021. They describe their initial encounter as a dream come true, as they were selected to be a part of Lizzo’s dance team. Despite their excitement, they noticed a change in Lizzo’s behavior when the cameras were off. Davis mentioned that there was a sense of diva-like attitude whenever Lizzo entered the room, although she was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt due to her busy schedule.

As time went on, the dancers claimed that they were not treated as part of Lizzo’s core dance group, and their interactions with her were limited. They often found themselves attending events or participating in activities that made them uncomfortable in order to maintain job security. Lizzo emphasized that she wanted the team to be like a family, blurring the line between professionalism and friendship.

According to the lawsuit, tensions escalated during a 12-hour rehearsal in April 2023. Davis, feeling immense pressure to perform, was unable to take a break to use the bathroom, resulting in her losing control of her bladder. The dancers believe that their mistreatment stemmed from their advocacy for changes in their pay and management, with the management team misrepresenting their requests to Lizzo.

Ultimately, the dancers were fired, leaving them shocked and disappointed. Davis recounted an incident where Lizzo expressed concern about her weight gain, leading her to believe that Lizzo no longer wanted her to perform. Rodriguez expressed her disappointment as well, stating that Lizzo’s actions contradicted the values she represented to the public.

The dancers hoped for a positive experience when working with Lizzo, but they were let down by the alleged toxic environment. The lawsuit serves as a reminder that even idolized figures may not always live up to expectations.
