Isiah Kiner-Falefa Thriving with the Influence of Sean Casey’s Hitting Approach

In an effort to turn their season around, the Yankees have made a change in their hitting approach. Historically known as a team that heavily pulls the ball, the Yankees have been focusing on using the entire field more since Sean Casey took over as hitting coach. Prior to their recent 1-0 loss to the Orioles, Yankees hitters had pulled only 38.5 percent of their batted balls over the past five games. This is a slight decrease compared to the 42.4 percent pull rate they had under the previous hitting coach, Dillon Lawson.

However, the Yankees’ new hitting strategy isn’t necessarily about using the whole field. According to Isiah Kiner-Falefa, the Yankees may be going the opposite way more often because they are taking an extra moment to decide whether to swing or not. This change in approach aims to improve their ability to see the ball longer and slow the game down.
