San Antonio Mall Incident: Texan Truck Owner Shoots Suspected Thief

A Texas man successfully located his stolen truck and confronted the suspected thief, resulting in a fatal shootout in a public setting, according to police reports. The owner of the Ford truck discovered his vehicle at the South Park Mall in San Antonio. He then approached the driver, who was accompanied by a female passenger, and demanded their immediate exit from the stolen truck at gunpoint. Police Chief William McManus shared these details during a press briefing.

After alerting the police, the truck owner instructed the suspected thief and his companion to wait on the ground next to the vehicle. However, the man unexpectedly pulled out his own gun and fired at the truck owner, injuring him. In self-defense, the owner retaliated, ultimately killing the assailant in the mall parking lot. The woman also sustained injuries from the altercation. McManus clarified that the fatality was the result of the owner defending himself: “The bad guy is the one dead, yes… The driver of the stolen vehicle is deceased, shot by the owner of the stolen vehicle.”

Both the truck owner and the female passenger were transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds. The woman’s condition remains critical, while the truck owner is in stable condition. The identities of those involved have not yet been disclosed. Interestingly, a woman who was with the truck owner during the confrontation remained unharmed.

Regarding the incident, McManus expressed the complexity of evaluating the situation: “Look, he was trying to recover his property. I guess it would depend on who you asked if he did the right thing or not.”

As of Friday, the San Antonio Police Department has not provided any new updates. HuffPost’s request for comment from the South Park Mall remains unanswered.
