A former top Twitter executive has expressed her opinion on Elon Musk, calling him an “echo chamber” inhabitant and expressing surprise at his willingness to burn bridges. In a lengthy post on Musk’s social media platform, Esther Crawford defended and criticized the billionaire.

Esther Crawford, who previously served as Twitter’s Blue product manager and garnered attention for sleeping in the company’s offices before being laid off, shared her insights on Musk. She mentioned feeling that Musk was constantly immersed in his work, making him seem isolated and devoted to his tasks.

Crawford also noted that “Money and fame can create psychological prisons which may worsen mental health conditions.” This statement presented a strong critique of Musk, given Crawford’s previous public support for him during her time at Twitter. She was responsible for the relaunch of Twitter Blue, one of Musk’s controversial decisions at the company.

Initially, the release of Twitter Blue faced numerous challenges, including issues with impersonation, verification badges, and suspensions in certain areas. The launch received negative feedback from verified users and led to a decline in a company’s stock price due to the dissemination of false market-moving information by fraudulent accounts.

Crawford alluded to the difficulties of working for Musk, citing his unpredictable temper. She mentioned the fear that arose when having to deliver negative news or attend meetings, as it was hard to anticipate his reactions.

Furthermore, Crawford expressed her belief that Musk’s lack of process and empathy is painful. In her view, Musk excels in solving physics-based problems but lacks the social-emotional intelligence required for products that facilitate human connection and communication.

Nevertheless, Crawford defended Musk at certain points, acknowledging his impressive track record and refusing to be categorically for or against every change he introduces. She emphasized her evolution as a free thinker, breaking away from her fundamentalist upbringing.
