Where Striking Actors and Writers Can Enjoy Complimentary Meals

Struggling Hollywood actors and writers, who have been out of work for weeks or even months, are facing financial difficulties. As the strikes continue with no resolution in sight, several organizations, restaurants, and well-off celebrities have stepped up to provide free meals for the actors.

One such organization is the World Harvest Food Bank in Los Angeles’ Arlington Heights neighborhood. This food bank, known for its unique approach to helping underserved residents, is offering a full cart of groceries worth approximately $300 to actors and writers who show their union cards. This offer will remain in effect until the strike is resolved.

Glen Curado, the founder and CEO of the food bank, expressed his support for the actors, stating that they are already “starving artists” and the strike has only made their situation worse. Over 100 union members have already taken advantage of the food bank’s generosity.

Kristina Wong, a member of the leading strike union, played a key role in launching this effort and raising awareness. She emphasized the importance of providing dignity to those in need, as the process of receiving free food is often degrading.

In addition to the food bank, two restaurants in New York’s theater district, Nizza and Marseille, are offering free meals to SAG-AFTRA cardholders after 9 p.m. The establishments will keep track of the actors’ tabs but will not expect payment.

Celebrities are also contributing to support the actors. Drew Carey, comedian and host of “The Price Is Right,” offered to cover writers’ meal tabs at two Los Angeles restaurants for the duration of the strike. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson made a significant seven-figure donation to the SAG-AFTRA Foundation Emergency Financial Assistance and Disaster Relief Fund.

Overall, these efforts aim to provide much-needed support to actors and writers during the strike, demonstrating solidarity and compassion within the entertainment industry.
