Tui to Restart Rhodes Holiday Programme from Ireland This Saturday

Tui has announced that all flight-only customers scheduled to travel on flights affected by the wildfires in Rhodes will receive full refunds. Additionally, package holiday customers will have the option to amend their booking or cancel and receive a full refund. The company aims to process refunds within 14 days of the booking being cancelled.

However, Tui plans to resume its holiday programme from Ireland to the north of the island, where hotels and resorts are fully operational, starting this weekend. Customers who prefer to change to another available holiday can do so, or they can cancel and receive a full refund.

The evacuation of thousands of people from homes and hotels on Rhodes due to the wildfires has prompted these measures. Similar wildfires have also affected Corfu and Evia, with the heatwave in Greece causing temperatures to exceed 40C and strong winds hindering firefighting efforts, according to reports from AP.

While Tui has taken action, Ryanair has stated that its flights to and from Rhodes are currently operating as normal and remain unaffected by the wildfires. Any changes to flights will be communicated through the Ryanair app. Passengers travelling to and from Rhodes from July 25 to 27 have the option to change their flights for free on the website or app.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has not issued a travel advisory against visiting Rhodes or other wildfire-affected islands in Greece. However, Irish holidaymakers planning to travel to affected areas are advised to check with their tour operator or hotel before traveling, avoid affected areas, stay informed, and follow local advice.

Tui’s website for Irish customers, tuiholidays.ie, is currently showing discounted package holiday prices to Rhodes in the coming days. For example, a seven-night self-catering holiday to the Cosmos Maris resort on the east is reduced by 48% to €498 per person based on an August 2 departure.

Tui’s teams in Rhodes have been working tirelessly to support affected customers, arranging flights back to the UK and Ireland for many. Tui reassures customers that their health and safety is a top priority, and they will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary. Customers booked to travel to impacted hotels on the south up to and including August 11 can rebook, amend, or obtain a full refund. Scheduled return flights from Rhodes to Ireland will operate as planned.
