Weekend Repairs Scheduled for Long Beach’s Harbor Scenic Drive

The Harbor Scenic Drive in the Port of Long Beach will be temporarily closed for multiple weekends, beginning on the evening of August 4th, as crews work to repair the roadway. This announcement was made by officials on Wednesday.

The closures, which will occur between Harbor Plaza and Ocean Boulevard, may impact drivers who are heading to Piers G, H, and J at the Port of Long Beach, as well as the Queen Mary, the Carnival Cruise terminal, and nearby hospitality businesses.

For heavy-duty vehicles, detours will be available using a combination of Pico Avenue and Harbor Plaza. Additionally, cars and pickup trucks can utilize the Queensway Bridge to access the downtown Long Beach area.

Motorists are advised by port officials to exercise caution while traveling through the work zone, listen to the guidance of Harbor patrol officers, and follow the designated detour routes.

The northbound Harbor Scenic Drive will be closed from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. on August 4th-6th, and again on August 26th.

The southbound Harbor Scenic Drive will be closed from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. on August 18th-20th, and again on August 27th.

Port officials have designated a northbound detour that involves heading west on Harbor Plaza from Harbor Scenic Drive, continuing around to Pico Avenue, and taking the Long Beach (710) Freeway northbound on-ramp. Cars and pickup trucks also have the option to take Harbor Plaza to the on-ramp for Queensway Bridge, allowing them to access downtown.

For the southbound detour, drivers are instructed to exit 710 South/Harbor Scenic Drive at Pico Avenue, just south of Ocean Boulevard. From there, they can turn left at Harbor Plaza, either continuing on southbound Harbor Scenic Drive or accessing the hospitality businesses, such as hotels, restaurants, the Queen Mary, and the Carnival Cruise terminal.

Cars and pickup trucks can also utilize the Queensway Bridge south from downtown, taking the Harbor Plaza east exit, and then turning left on Harbor Plaza to reach their desired destination.
