Attorney Claims Settled by Former Flame of Nicholas Cage

A former girlfriend of Nicolas Cage, who previously filed a lawsuit against Erika Jayne and two lawyers, seeking nearly $745,000 in an alleged lawsuit settlement, has reached a tentative settlement regarding her claims against one of the attorneys.

In her complaint filed in Los Angeles Superior Court in July 2022, actress Christina Fulton, the plaintiff, not only named “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” cast member Jayne as a defendant but also accused two lawyers, John Kelley Courtney and Samantha Gold, who worked for Girardi & Keese law firm, of legal malpractice and other misconduct.

Courtney’s attorneys submitted court papers to Judge Thomas D. Long, informing him of a “conditional” settlement regarding Fulton’s claims against their client. The specific terms of the settlement were not disclosed.

Girardi & Keese, co-founded by Jayne’s estranged husband, Tom Girardi, faced dissolution due to allegations of embezzled funds from clients. The 56-year-old Fulton alleges that she became a victim of this misconduct when she hired the firm to represent her after sustaining injuries in a traffic accident in January 2016. Fulton’s lawsuit further claims that Jayne’s company, EJ Global LLC, was established to divert funds from the firm for her personal benefit.

In 2019, Girardi & Keese negotiated a settlement agreement of $924,300 for Fulton. However, Fulton claims that she did not receive her portion of $744,650, as stated in her lawsuit.

The suit explains that Courtney served as the senior attorney in charge of the case, with Gold as Fulton’s primary attorney. Gold’s attorneys have filed a motion to dismiss Fulton’s claims against their client, scheduled for a hearing on March 26, 2024.

Fulton states that she discovered this summer, through bank records and financial documents, that the settlement funds meant for her were allegedly diverted to Jayne and EJ Global. Furthermore, Fulton alleges that as Girardi & Keese settled cases, Jayne received funds and used them to support a luxurious lifestyle enjoyed by her and Girardi.

In response to the complaint filed on Monday, Jayne’s attorney denied any wrongdoing on behalf of his client, EJ Global, or Jayne’s other company, Pretty Mess Inc.

According to Jayne’s attorney’s court papers, “(Fulton) exclusively dealt with Girardi & Keese and their attorneys. (Fulton) had no interaction with Erika Jayne, EJ Global LLC, or Pretty Mess Inc.”

In his court papers, Jayne’s lawyer adds that Jayne, EJ Global, and Pretty Mess had no knowledge of, nor participated in, the alleged misconduct involving Girardi & Keese and Thomas Girardi.

Jayne filed for divorce from Girardi in November 2020.
