Identification Released for Man Fatally Shot by Police During Altercation in Reseda Strip Mall
Authorities have revealed the identity of the individual who was fatally wounded by law enforcement officials after allegedly brandishing a knife and injuring another individual in a scuffle at a strip mall in Reseda. The incident took place on Tuesday morning, prompting the Los Angeles Police Department to dispatch officers to the 7600 block of Reseda Boulevard in response to multiple reports of an armed man on the premises.
The deceased has been identified as Meyvic Arreola, a 44-year-old man whose city of residence remains unknown. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office provided this information.
LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton informed the media that upon arriving at the scene, the officers discovered Arreola in the strip mall’s parking lot. They initially discharged a non-lethal round in an attempt to subdue him, but it proved ineffective. Consequently, the officers resorted to using deadly force, resulting in Arreola’s death.
Hamilton mentioned that the knife used in the altercation was recovered at the scene. The incident was recorded by surveillance cameras within the strip mall’s businesses, as well as officer body cameras.
The individual who sustained injuries during the scuffle with the suspect was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, the injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, as confirmed by the police.
The Los Angeles Fire Department revealed that the victim who was hospitalized is estimated to be around 30 years of age.
Fortunately, no law enforcement officers were harmed during the incident.
