The Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control has exciting news for animal lovers in the area. Starting next week, the department is expanding its public visiting hours at all seven of its animal care centers. This change will provide more opportunities for people to find their new furry family members or reunite with lost pets.
Beginning on August 1, the centers will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays through Saturdays. This represents a significant increase from the previous 23 hours per week to a total of 36 hours, which is a growth of 56%. Unfortunately, there won’t be any public viewing on Sundays, but the department will still accept stray animals and work to reunite them with their families.
DACC Director Marcia Mayeda expressed her excitement about the expanded hours, stating, “Expanding our hours for public access to our animals will enable more time for people to look for potential new family members or search for their lost pets. We have developed this new schedule so we can provide the greatest access for the public while working within our budgetary limitations.”
During the pandemic, the department had reduced visiting hours and implemented an appointment system. Despite the expansion of hours, DACC will continue to offer appointments for those who prefer a more personalized experience.
