Santa Clarita: Brush in Angeles National Forest Consumed by Raging Fire

Amid scorching temperatures, a brush fire swept through approximately 60 acres of vegetation in the Santa Clarita area on Tuesday. This led to the closure of nearby Metrolink tracks and resulted in minor injuries for one firefighter.

According to officials from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the Agua Fire was reported in the Soledad Canyon and Agua Dulce Canyon roads area shortly after 2 p.m. Firefighters from both the county and the U.S. Forest Service joined forces to combat the fire as it spread into the Angeles National Forest.

The crews confronted the blazing flames in triple-digit temperatures, which prompted the National Weather Service to issue a heat advisory for the Santa Clarita Valley.

Initially estimated to cover four acres, the fire posed the potential to expand across 200 acres, as warned by the on-site crews. Consequently, a second alarm was promptly issued to bring additional crews to the scene.

By 3 p.m., the fire was estimated to be between 10 and 13 acres in size, ravaging through dense brush. However, as the afternoon progressed, this estimate was revised downward to approximately 40 acres.

During efforts to extinguish the blaze, one firefighter sustained minor, unspecified injuries and received treatment.

Although no structures were immediately under threat from the flames, there were concerns for a nearby trailer park.

According to Forest Service officials, the fire was approximately 10% contained as of 7:10 p.m. on Tuesday.

At present, the cause of the fire remains unknown.
