Elon Musk’s decision to rebrand Twitter as X signifies his vision to create what he refers to as an “everything app.”

“Twitter was acquired by X Corp to safeguard freedom of speech and serve as a catalyst for X, the everything app. This is not just a mere name change, but a strategic move,” Musk explained in a post on Monday night.

“The name Twitter was suitable when it was solely about 140 character messages, resembling the tweeting of birds. However, the platform now allows users to post almost anything, including lengthy videos. In the future, we will incorporate comprehensive communication features and the ability to manage one’s entire financial realm. The name Twitter no longer aligns with this broader context, hence we bid farewell to the bird.”

This bold move by Musk is seen as risky by business analysts since it undoes years of branding associated with Twitter’s blue bird logo. The changes made by Musk on the platform have already raised concerns among advertisers about the safety of promoting brands on Twitter.

Recently, Musk appointed former NBCUniversal advertising executive Linda Yaccarino as CEO, a move aimed at reassuring advertisers. In a message to the staff on Monday, Yaccarino commented on the name change, saying, “Our user base is at an all-time high and we will continue to provide exciting new experiences in audio, video, messaging, payments, and banking, thereby creating a global marketplace for ideas, products, services, and opportunities.”
