Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter Inc, intends to revamp the company’s branding and retire its iconic bird logo. Musk took to the platform to announce that “soon we shall bid adieu to the twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds.”

Musk, who acquired the company last year, has already implemented notable changes to Twitter, including renaming it as X Corp in filings. This is part of his vision to create an all-encompassing “everything app” under the brand “X.”

In a tweet on Sunday, Musk stated, “If a good enough X logo is posted tonight, we’ll make [it] go live worldwide tomorrow.” He also conducted a poll to determine whether the platform’s default color should be black.

Since Musk’s acquisition in October, Twitter has faced mounting challenges. Workforce reductions and significant policy alterations have frustrated users and advertisers, leading to a 50 percent drop in advertising revenues and financial instability.

Meta, a rival company, recently launched Threads, a highly anticipated Twitter competitor, attracting millions of users. Twitter threatened to sue Meta, accusing them of stealing trade secrets to develop their messaging app.

Musk has a history of altering his decisions following public announcements. If he proceeds with the rebranding, it would be the latest attempt to revitalize the company.

In May, Linda Yaccarino, former head of advertising at NBCUniversal, was appointed as Twitter’s CEO in an effort to win back major advertisers who abandoned the platform due to Musk’s unconventional leadership style and lax content moderation.

While advertisers are returning to Twitter, Musk continues to alienate users. His recent announcement of temporary limits on user access to posts caused a backlash.

Twitter’s light-blue bird logo is the company’s most recognizable asset, known worldwide. It was named “Larry T Bird” by Twitter co-founder Biz Stone, as a homage to former basketball player Larry Bird.
