Germany, in collaboration with its allies, is taking measures to ensure that Ukrainian grain is not wasted in silos following Russia’s withdrawal from an export deal. Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock announced on Thursday that efforts will be intensified to transport the grain by rail. Baerbock accused Russia of blackmail and using the grain as a weapon, disregarding the needs of the world’s poorest populations.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has criticized Western countries for “perverting” the grain deal, which was brokered by the United Nations and Turkey.

Baerbock emphasized the urgency of delivering the grain from Ukraine to the hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people who are in immediate need of it. Germany is collaborating with international partners to ensure that the grain does not rot in silos and reaches those in need.
