In his final NBA Summer League game, Kai Sotto of the Orlando Magic went without scoring as they were defeated by the Boston Celtics, 94-77, on Sunday (Manila Time) at Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
Sotto, who played for only eight minutes, missed all three of his shot attempts due to back pain. He was substituted at the 5:35 mark of the second quarter and immediately went to the locker room.
Despite his short playing time, the 7-foot-3 Sotto made an impact by grabbing two defensive rebounds and blocking a shot.
He ended the game with two rebounds, one block, and an assist, but also had two turnovers.
This was Sotto’s second appearance out of five games in the Summer League.
The Orlando Magic finished the Summer League winless in five games.
Sotto made his debut in the Summer League last Friday, where he contributed six points, four rebounds, one assist, and three blocks in 13 minutes of action in a loss against the Portland Trail Blazers.
With the win, the Celtics improved their record to 2-3, with Vincent Valerio-Bodon leading their balanced attack with 13 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Jordan Walsh and Reggie Kissoonlal scored 12 points each, while Kamar Baldwin and Justin Bean added 10 points apiece.
Orlando relied on Robert Baker’s double-double performance of 15 points and 11 rebounds.
It is still uncertain where Sotto will go next after the Summer League, but he is part of the Gilas Pilipinas’ pool for the Fiba World Cup in August.
