NEW YORK, July 14 (UPI) — Izzy Meikle-Small discusses her character, Rachel, in the seventh season of the beloved time-travel romance series, Outlander.
Meikle-Small describes Rachel as a kind, loyal, and intelligent character who undergoes significant growth and transformation throughout the season.
In this season, Rachel experiences war and romance, stepping into the world and encountering boys for the first time.
The actress reveals that Rachel’s journey is both incredible and filled with feistiness, independence, and strength.
Airing on Starz, the television adaptation of Diana Gabaldon’s best-selling novels portrays the lives of Jamie Fraser, a former Scottish warrior, and his wife Claire, who has the ability to time-travel between the 18th century and the 20th century.
In Season 7, Rachel and her brother Denzell Hunter, portrayed by Joey Phillips, join the Frasers’ story and face their own challenges in the midst of war.
The characters, being Quakers, strive to do good in the world despite being exposed to violence and conflict.
Rachel and Denzell’s sacrifices and their transition into a dangerous world raise questions about the ultimate worth of their actions.
In addition, Denzell shares a special bond with Claire, recognizing her brilliance and giving her the respect she deserves as a surgeon.
Rachel, similarly, develops a positive relationship with Claire, who becomes a motherly figure and mentor to the young nurse.
As the war intensifies, the characters find themselves spending less time with Jamie, as he continues to fight battles on the frontlines.
Meikle-Small and Phillips express their initial nerves about joining a well-established and beloved series, but they have found comfort and support from the fan base and have seamlessly integrated into the show.
The seventh season of “Outlander” premiered in June 2023, following the completion of the shortened sixth season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The show has already been renewed for an eighth and final season, with a prequel series centered around Jamie’s parents in development.
