The Cause of Lisa Marie Presley’s Death Finally Comes to Light

The recent death of Lisa Marie Presley at the age of 54 has been attributed to a small bowel obstruction, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. The specific cause of death was found to be sequelae of small bowel obstruction. As explained by People, sequelae refers to the condition that results from a previous disease or injury. In this case, Presley had previously undergone bariatric surgery, and the coroner’s report indicates that the obstruction was caused by adhesions in the form of a strangulated small bowel that developed post-surgery. Such obstructions are a well-known long-term complication of bariatric surgeries.

TMZ also reports that the toxicology report revealed therapeutic levels of Oxycodone and Buprenorphine, both opioids used to treat pain and manage opioid dependence, in Presley’s blood at the time of her death. Opioids can cause constipation, which can lead to bowel obstruction. The report states that Presley had recently undergone a cosmetic procedure and had been prescribed opioids. Additionally, Presley had a documented history of drug and alcohol abuse and a habit of forgetting whether or not she had taken her medications.

Last month, a dispute over Presley’s estate was settled, with her daughter, Riley Keough, gaining control after Presley’s mother, Priscilla Presley, attempted to take over. To settle the dispute, Keough paid her grandmother $1 million and $400,000 in legal fees.
