Lavender Darcangelo is an unforgettable name in the world of music.
The incredibly talented blind vocalist, who also has autism, captured the hearts of the audience and judges on the recent episode of America’s Got Talent (AGT).
Wearing a vibrant dress that perfectly matched her name, Darcangelo mesmerized the crowd with her rendition of “Out Here on My Own,” a beautiful ballad from the 1980 movie Fame, originally performed by Irene Cara.
Her sweet and powerful performance left many in tears and earned her a coveted Golden Buzzer from judge Heidi Klum.
During her introduction, Darcangelo shared, “I’ve been singing since I was three years old. I didn’t start talking until I was four and a half. I’m also autistic and blind. I have big dreams.” She appeared on stage with her father, Wil.
“I want to create a school where classes are based on children’s natural curiosity, a school where I would have thrived,” Darcangelo expressed. “My dad’s name is Wil. He adopted me when I was older. I met him through an after-school program he was running.”
Wil revealed that he started an after-school music program in 2010, and Darcangelo joined. They quickly became close friends, and Wil, along with his husband Jamie, ultimately adopted her.
Klum couldn’t contain her excitement and said, “I feel like I just fell in love. This AGT journey is amazing, and I would love to be your cheerleader and support you until the end. What do you say? Let’s do this!”
Darcangelo was overwhelmed with emotion as golden confetti fell around her.
“I don’t know if this is a dream or if I’m really awake,” she tearfully said.
