An Allegiant Air flight to Florida experienced extreme turbulence, resulting in a flight attendant being thrown into the air like Neo from “The Matrix”.

“She was literally like Matrix. I watched her go up in the air and land straight down. She broke her ankle,” said passenger Lisa Spriggs in an interview with WFLA, a Florida television station.

Another passenger named Paul Harris described the incident, stating, “The plane felt like it dropped considerably. Several people, including a lady in my row, hit the ceiling.”

Spriggs and Harris were among the 179 passengers on Allegiant Flight 227, which was flying from Asheville, North Carolina to St. Petersburg, Florida. Allegiant Air confirmed that the flight experienced severe turbulence but landed safely and taxied to the gate without assistance.

According to flight tracking platform FlightAware, the plane’s altitude dropped by approximately 5,000 feet in less than two minutes during the turbulent episode.

Allegiant Air provided a statement to Newsweek, revealing that paramedics assessed two passengers and two flight attendants for injuries and they were taken to the hospital for further evaluation. Six additional passengers were assessed on-site and released. Allegiant Air representatives did not respond to Insider’s request for comment.
