A recent survey of 2,000 individuals in the UK suggests that sleep inequality could be causing tension in relationships. The study found that, on average, women sleep for around eight hours each night, while men typically get seven. This one-hour difference has led to sleep-related issues for 63% of couples surveyed.

In an attempt to address this sleep imbalance, over half of the couples have resorted to sleeping separately, with 10% even opting for separate bedrooms. However, there might be a solution to this problem – engaging in intimate activities. According to the survey, 76% of women and 82% of men reported better sleep after being intimate with their partners.

The poll, conducted by CBD brand Naturecan, highlights the importance of sleep and its impact on overall well-being. The National Health Service (NHS) recommends adults to get seven to nine hours of sleep each night, but admits that a significant portion of the population struggles with insomnia at some point.

Various factors disrupt sleep for Brits, with heat being the most commonly reported culprit, affecting 64% of men and 62% of women. Other sleep disruptors include light, stress, noise, snoring, bathroom breaks, and pets.

The Naturecan survey provides some insight into the potential benefits of intimate activities in improving sleep quality. However, sleep imbalances in relationships can be a significant problem, as it inevitably affects intimacy when partners are not in bed together.

Experts endorse the idea that women require more sleep than men due to their multitasking abilities and increased use of the brain. Professor Jim Horne, an expert in psychophysiology at Loughborough University, suggests that the sleep needs of women are greater because of these factors.
