The 65-year-old former host of This Morning, Fern Britton, has recently opened up about being single after her split from celebrity chef Phil Vickery. She announced the break-up of her marriage in January 2020, shortly after the death of her father, Tony Britton, in December 2019. In an interview with Good Housekeeping, Britton expressed her feelings about this new chapter in her life. She stated, “My children are grown-up and I’m no longer married, and it feels like a whole new world has opened up. I never expected to be 65 and single, but I am surprisingly relaxed about it.”
Britton and Vickery had appeared together on the cooking show Ready Steady Cook and got married in 2000. When Britton revealed their separation on Twitter, she mentioned that they had decided to go their “separate ways.”
In addition to discussing her personal life, Britton also shared her journey towards better health. She admitted that about a year ago, she realized she wasn’t taking care of herself physically or mentally. However, something clicked inside her, and she decided to make a change. She said, “No, you have to take care of yourself.” She has since started practicing yoga, using the couch to 5k running app, and making an effort to improve her fitness. Despite her challenges with arthritis and upcoming shoulder replacement surgery, she has embraced this new activity and finds enjoyment in it. She commented, “I may be slow, but it’s only three miles. I’m not trying to win races, but I appreciate the benefits of being physically fit.”
Britton, who is best known for her time as a presenter on This Morning, left the show in 2009. When asked if she would consider returning, she expressed that she doesn’t believe in turning back time and thinks it wouldn’t work that way. Although she loved her 10 years on This Morning, she believes in moving forward and focusing on the present.
The interview also mentioned Phillip Schofield, Britton’s former co-presenter on This Morning. Schofield recently left the show in May and later admitted to having an affair with a younger colleague. He subsequently stepped down from ITV.
