Susan Lorincz Complaints captured in Police Body Camera Footage

Newly released body-camera footage obtained by HuffPost provides insight into the series of incidents involving Susan Lorincz, the white Florida woman charged with manslaughter in the shooting death of her Black neighbor, Ajike “AJ” Owens. The video shows sheriff’s deputies responding to various complaints made by Lorincz.

According to an arrest affidavit, Owens was shot and killed by Lorincz on June 2 after repeatedly knocking on her apartment door. The incident occurred after Owens discovered that Lorincz had thrown her son’s tablet on the ground, cursed at him, and threw roller skates at him. Owens and other witnesses reported this to the police.

In the months leading up to the shooting, Lorincz had called the police multiple times to complain about Owens, her children, and other neighbors. Allegations included trespassing, noise disturbances, and derogatory name-calling. However, no arrests were made as a result of these calls, and the body-camera footage shows deputies explaining to Lorincz that the areas where the alleged trespassing occurred were not her property.

Authorities had previously stated that Lorincz admitted to using racial slurs, including the n-word, when referring to Owens’ children. Lorincz had claimed that she was being bullied by the children. In the video from August 2022, Lorincz expresses her frustration to deputies about the children’s behavior and the impact it has on her migraines and concentration.

In another body-camera interview from April, multiple children inform responding deputies that Lorincz had been aggressive towards them, using profanities and racial slurs. Owens’ son also recounted an incident where Lorincz referred to them as slaves. Another incident in February 2022 involved Lorincz alleging that Owens hit her with a sign.

The footage reveals that Lorincz would call the police frequently over minor issues related to children playing in shared areas. Neighbors reported instances where Lorincz would retaliate by revving her car or setting off her car alarm near the children. The neighbor interviewed in April expressed frustration with Lorincz’s constant complaints, stating that she would call the police over “stupidity.”

Despite these incidents, Florida prosecutors decided not to pursue murder charges against Lorincz. Instead, she has been charged with manslaughter with a firearm and assault. Florida State Attorney William “Bill” Gladson stated that there was not enough evidence to prove a “depraved mind” required for second-degree murder charges. If convicted, Lorincz could face up to 30 years in prison.

In conclusion, the newly released body-camera footage sheds light on the events leading up to the tragic shooting and provides context to the conflicts between Susan Lorincz and Ajike Owens.
