The Optimistic Outlook: Revealing the Positives behind the Decline in American’s Hope for a Brighter Future

As the United States celebrates its 247th birthday and anticipates the monumental 250th anniversary in three years, the state of our nation is disheartening. Major American cities, like NYC, are plagued with rampant crime. Additionally, in the past three years, nearly 7 million aliens have crossed the border, and a CNN poll indicates that 69 percent of Americans believe the country is performing poorly.

According to a recent Rasmussen poll, only 32 percent of voters believe America will be in a better state in 20 years. Furthermore, an NBC poll from last year revealed that only 35 percent of registered voters believe the best years of America are ahead of us. However, amidst these disheartening statistics, there is still hope. These circumstances have occurred before, and the days that followed such challenging times were far more prosperous. Just as it was then, our success today hinges on unwavering commitment.

In 1773, America was merely the name of a continent. The concept of a nation had not yet taken hold in the minds of our Founding Fathers, and July 4 was just another workday. It would be a year until the First Continental Congress convened and three years until the Declaration of Independence brought our nation into existence.

However, discontent was growing among the colonists. The Tea Act was passed in May 1773, and in June, Benjamin Franklin leaked letters from Royal Governor Hutchinson that highlighted the colonists’ lack of freedoms. Six months later, the Boston Tea Party became a landmark moment, symbolizing the colonists’ courageous commitment to liberty.

FOURTH OF JULY: WHAT IS IT AND WHY DO WE CELEBRATE THE HOLIDAY WITH FIREWORKS?

I cannot help but wonder what the brave patriots felt as they attended the Committees of Correspondence in each colony or boarded the ships to defy the British by throwing off their tea. The Crown had begun corrupting the justice system to maintain its control and overtaxing hardworking men and women. British leaders even believed that the colonists legitimately lacked liberties. Some patriots may have felt terrified, others enraged, and some solely focused on finding a solution. Yet, they shared a common commitment—to the belief that their actions could make a difference. In short, they were committed to hope.

That is what I admire about both America and football. You are never truly out of the game; there is always a chance for a remarkable comeback or a victory in the next match. As long as patriots and athletes remember their abilities, hope endures. Exceptional coaches understand the power of a fourth-quarter speech. In those few minutes, the players do not acquire new skills; the coaches simply remind them of their capabilities—to win. Today, I offer America its own fourth-quarter speech.

I stand with the 35 percent who believe the best is yet to come. Although the current state of affairs and news may appear bleak, when I look around, I see hope.

The Department of Justice may be wielded and politicized as never before, with the aim of undermining the leading opponent of the current President. The same DOJ, along with progressive state legislators, may declare that parents no longer possess the liberties they once enjoyed. And corporations across the nation may defy their customers’ values. However, the best is yet to come.

In recent years, Americans have united to proclaim that enough is enough. Courageous parents have spoken up at school board meetings against political indoctrination of their children, with some even successfully running for office. Consumers have used their wallets to show their dissatisfaction with brands that contradict their beliefs. The American Spirit has been reignited, and our citizens are motivated.

But we must not stop here. Ronald Reagan famously said, “Freedom is a fragile thing and it’s never more than one generation away from extinction. It is not ours by way of inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. And those in world history who have known freedom and then lost it have never known it again.”

So, this is your fourth-quarter speech. The America we once cherished is at stake, but hope remains. Americans from all walks of life have risen against progressivism. We know what we can accomplish when we work together as a team. Now is not the time to retreat; it is the time to stand firm and fight harder for the land we love.

How do we preserve freedom? The answer is etched on the Liberty Bell—”Proclaim Liberty Throughout All the Land Unto All the Inhabitants thereof,” based on Leviticus 25:10. The progressives have launched an assault on freedom by promoting oppression and victimhood through our children’s education and media networks. In response, we must proudly declare, as we celebrate this Fourth of July, that America represents freedom and equality, not oppression, racism, or any other empty slogans they throw at us. This Independence Day, we declare liberty, and with liberty, we restore hope to our great nation.
