Twitter has recently implemented usage limits to combat the presence of bots and other malicious actors on its platform. The company assures that only a small percentage of users are currently affected by these limits.

In a blog post, Twitter explained the necessity to take extreme measures to guarantee the authenticity of its user base by eliminating spam and bots. The company believes that providing advance notice of these actions would have allowed bad actors to modify their behavior and avoid detection.

The primary aim of these measures is to prevent accounts from scraping public data and using it to create artificial intelligence models or manipulate the platform.

Twitter’s owner, Elon Musk, made an announcement on Saturday about the limits, citing “extreme levels of data scraping” and “system manipulation” as the reasons behind the decision. These restrictions are temporary and are tiered based on a user’s verification status.

Many Twitter users have already encountered error messages when attempting to access the platform due to these restrictions. However, Twitter clarifies that the impact on advertising has been minimal and assures users that an update will be provided once the work is complete.
