Springbok coach Jacques Nienaber has implemented a split squad tactic, sending several first-team players to face the All Blacks on July 15. In their absence, number eight Duane Vermeulen has been given the captaincy. This strategy allows South Africa to maximize their chances of victory in both matches.

Speaking about the team selection, Nienaber stated, “Our plan from the outset was to select a squad we believe has what it takes to beat Australia while at the same time selecting a group of players that could travel to New Zealand to give us the best possible chance to do well in both matches.” He also acknowledged the threat posed by Australia under the leadership of coach Eddie Jones.
