Pro-Kennedy Super PAC Claims $10 Million Fundraising Milestone

A political action committee supporting Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s presidential bid has successfully raised $10.25 million, according to one of its leaders. This significant financial milestone indicates that Kennedy’s underdog challenge against President Biden is gaining traction among donors, including Republicans.

Although the exact fundraising figures for the super PAC, American Values 2024, will be disclosed in later reports filed with the Federal Election Commission, Tony Lyons, Mr. Kennedy’s publisher and co-chair of the super PAC, confirms that the $10.25 million includes two sizeable donations exceeding $1 million each. Furthermore, these contributions come from a balanced mix of Republicans and Democrats.

Despite the controversy surrounding Kennedy’s views as a 69-year-old environmental lawyer and vocal skeptic of vaccines and prescription medications, he has managed to make headway in the race. He criticizes the Democratic Party, accuses public health authorities of corruption, and increasingly aligns himself with conservative figures and causes.

It is important to note that Kennedy’s financial support will not come close to rivaling that of President Biden, who benefits from the resources of the Democratic National Committee and a robust donor infrastructure as the incumbent.

Kennedy’s support among Democrats has reached as high as 20% in polls, although a recent survey conducted by the Saint Anselm College Survey Center put his Democratic support in New Hampshire at 9%. Additionally, he has found favor among prospective voters outside the Democratic Party, with 40% of Republicans viewing him favorably, compared to 31% of independents and 25% of Democrats, according to a Quinnipiac University poll.

As of now, Mr. Biden’s campaign has not released its fundraising numbers.

American Values 2024, formerly known as the People’s Pharma Movement, initially received $500,000 in contributions from Mark Gorton, a New York City investor. Records show that Gorton, who supports Kennedy’s campaign, became acquainted with him through the “health freedom” movement, which opposes vaccinations and health practice regulations. The committee changed its name this spring after Kennedy entered the race for the Democratic nomination in April. The majority of the $10.25 million has been raised since then, indicating a significant influx of funds in the weeks leading up to the June 30 reporting deadline.

The diverse range of political affiliations among the donors demonstrates that people from across the political spectrum believe Kennedy will combat government corruption and the corporate takeover of government agencies.

In recent speeches and appearances, Kennedy centers on his family’s renowned political legacy and presents his campaign as an effort to mend the divisions in American politics caused by corporate influence.

It is worth noting that the super PAC supporting Kennedy, American Values 2024, operates independently of his campaign. The campaign recently launched a campaign to raise $5 million to close out its first quarter of fundraising, with a notable accomplishment of $1 million in contributions within a 24-hour period.

Dennis Kucinich, former presidential candidate and Ohio congressman, who serves as Kennedy’s campaign manager, anticipates an upcoming fundraising announcement. Official fundraising figures will be submitted to the F.E.C. this month.

A second group, Common Sense PAC, which was formed in Los Angeles and supports Kennedy’s candidacy, held a successful fundraiser in San Francisco last month. The event, hosted by actress Sofia Karstens, who is actively involved in the health freedom movement, alongside tech investors David Sacks and Chamath Palihapitiya, raised nearly $1 million. Ms. Karstens does not have the latest fundraising total for the PAC at this time.
