Khris Middleton, a three-time All-Star, has agreed to a three-year, $102 million contract extension with the Milwaukee Bucks, according to a person familiar with the situation. The signing has not yet been announced and the person spoke on the condition of anonymity.

This deal comes after Middleton declined a $40.4 million player option for the upcoming season to become a free agent. The Bucks’ general manager, Jon Horst, expressed the team’s desire to keep Middleton during a post-draft news conference, stating that Middleton is core to their success and they hope to have him back.

The Bucks have been striving to retain Middleton and free-agent center Brook Lopez as part of their core alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jrue Holiday. Middleton has been with the Bucks since 2013 and has enjoyed a successful partnership with Antetokounmpo, making All-Star teams in 2019, 2020, and 2022.

New Bucks coach Adrian Griffin praised Middleton and the rest of the team’s talent during his introductory press conference, highlighting their abilities as potential number one players on any other team.

Last season, Middleton played 33 games, averaging 15.1 points, 4.9 assists, and 4.2 rebounds. He missed significant playing time due to injuries, including a sprained left medial collateral ligament and wrist surgery.

Despite their regular-season success, the Bucks suffered an early playoff exit, resulting in the firing of coach Mike Budenholzer. The team is determined to bounce back and compete for a championship with Middleton as a key component of their roster.
