Kevin Spacey to Face Prosecution for Alleged Sex Offences

Actor Kevin Spacey, who has previously denied charges of sexual assault and indecent assault, is now facing the opening of his case as prosecutors begin presenting evidence against him. The charges involve alleged sex offences against four men. Spacey, seated in the dock at Southwark Crown Court, watched attentively as a panel of 14 jurors was selected. Christine Agnew KC will outline the alleged offences spanning from 2001 to 2013. In January, Spacey pleaded not guilty to multiple counts of indecent assault, sexual assault, and coercion into sexual activity without consent. He has also denied additional charges of sexual assault and coercion into penetrative sexual activity without consent. Before the jury panel was chosen, Mr Justice Mark Wall acknowledged that many jurors would be familiar with Spacey’s name and work, warning them to avoid media coverage of the case. Spacey, who resides in both London and the US, smiled and waved upon his arrival at court. His lawyer, Patrick Gibbs KC, stated in a previous hearing that Spacey vehemently denies any criminal wrongdoing in this case. Spacey is well-known for his roles in projects such as House of Cards, American Beauty, and The Usual Suspects, and served as the artistic director at The Old Vic theatre in London from 2004 to 2015. Spacey is currently out on unconditional bail and the case is set to commence with Ms Agnew’s opening statement on Friday.
